A true story spanning generations—experience life, resilience, and love in America’s railroad era.

About Author
Katherine O’Dowd Dark was born in Richmond, Missouri, in 1886 and lived a life marked by resilience and creativity. Trained as a milliner, a mother of four, and later a hotel owner, Katherine began writing stories from her childhood during retirement. These heartfelt memories, capturing the life of a railroad family at the turn of the century, became the foundation of this book.
Dr. Beverly Dark Graves, Katherine’s granddaughter, discovered the stories in the 1980s. A lifelong pediatrician and mother of three, Beverly lovingly transcribed and edited her grandmother’s writings, eventually transforming them into the book Railroad Family. Alongside her sister, Katie Dark Hilton, she brought this legacy to life to share with future generations.
